Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the course fee?

It depends on the type of course you attend. On our one day courses the fee includes the tutors time, knowledge and experience. The fee also includes a set of course notes based on the day.

The two day courses include bed and breakfast accommodation, evening meal,a packed lunch and refreshments, also transport from your accommodation to the locations. The fee also includes a set of course notes based on the day.

What does the fee not include?

It depends on the type of course you attend. On our one day courses the fee includes the tutors time, knowledge and experience, but not the cost of transport or food/refreshments. We would normally arrange to meet all delegates at a designated location, and also ask you to bring a packed lunch.

The fee for all courses does not include liability insurance for equipment damage or personal injury. LightscapePhotographic Holidays and Courses cannot accept responsibility for your equipment - please ensure that you have suitable insurance cover for your photographic equipment.

How long is the day?

This is based on the time of year and also the type of course. For the one day courses we normally meet at around 8.30am with a view to start photographing around 9am. We would usually aim to complete the day at around 5pm, however this again depends on the time of year along with weather conditions. We are fairly flexible and want to be sure that you get as much as you can from the course.

The two day courses tend to be earlier starts as we will visit locations slightly further afield. A typical day may start at 7.30am - 8am and will see us visiting different locations. These two and three courses will usually aim to end around 6pm or even later, however we are again dependant on weather conditions. We are fairly flexible and want to be sure that you get as much as you can from the courses.

What if it rains all day?

Although Wales is renowned for gettings its fair share of rain we will still visit the locations and wait for breaks in the weather. Usully the light after a rainstorm can be quite dramatic therefore allowing for good photographic opportunities. While we are waiting for a break in the weather the tutor will cover some of the theoretical aspects of photography, help set up your camera and answer any general questions that you may have.

If the weather looks unlikely that it will settle then we may have to transfer to another location or spend time at the place of your accommodation where we will demonstrate some digital manipulation techniques using some of our stock images or using your own images. As I'm sure you will appreciate landscape photography is reliant on reasonable weather and good lighting conditions, but be assured that we will endeavour to provide you with as good an experience as conditions allow.

What do I need to bring?

This depends on the type of course that you are attending. For the one day beginners course a compact camera if fine, but preferrably a SLR. A tripod is useful, camera bag, plenty of film or memory cards. Always make sure that your camera batteries are fully charged and bring spare batteries.

For the two day courses we anticipate that you use an SLR, therefore bring a sturdy tripod, fully charged batteries, spare batteries, spare memory cards, a change of lenses, cable release/remote and a set of photographic filters - please ask if you are unsure about any of these items.

Always bring comfortable footwear and suitable clothing as we will be open to all what the weather has to offer us!

For the one day courses please bring a packed lunch and refreshments. On the two day courses a packed lunch and refreshments is provided

Where will we be taking photographs?

Based on the time of year and the type of course we will mainly be focussing on locations within the Tywi Valley (both upper and lower). There may be occassions on the two day courses where we venture outside the Tywi Valley. We also run courses in the lower and mid Cambrian Mountains.

How will we travel to the locations?

On the one day courses we will arrange to meet near or at the location where the course is to be held. On the two day courses transport from your accommodation is provided by us. We will be travelling to the locations in our fully kitted motorhome. Click here to view more details.
